Graduated in political science from the University of Silesia in Katowice and postgraduate MBA Rotterdam School of Management Erasmus University.

Former member of supervisory board of Totalizator Sportowy, director of the marketing and promotion office of Poczta Polska (state postal administration of Poland). Worked in managerial positions at PKO Bank Polski. In 2005-2007, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Polish State Railways (PKP). From 28 January 2008 to 29 January 2013, President of the Management Board of PKP Cargo, where he carried out restructuring.

In April 2012, he became President of the Supervisory Board of LOT Polish Airlines. He also served as Vice President of Employers of Poland and Vice President of the European Organisation of Public Sector Employers (CEEP). From 2016 to 2017, he was president of Ukrainian Railways.
