Janusz Pietkiewicz

Quaestor of the Empolyers’ Group at the European Economic and Social Committee,
Executive Advisor on International Affairs to the Management Board of the Employers of Poland

He graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Trade at the Warsaw School of Economics in 1969. He defended with distinction in the Department of Econometrics his thesis on computer science in complex systems.

Cultural animator, local government activist, European impresario, entrepreneurship promoter, international expert. In his professional work, he has combined the management of cultural institutions (opera, classical music, theatre) and multimedia events with the promotion of Polish business abroad and representation of the employers' community in Paris, Geneva and Brussels, as well as work in the field of social dialogue.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Second World War, on 1 September 1989, he organised an appeal for peace at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, with the participation of world stars (including Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Pisar, Liv Ullmann, Barbara Hendricks, Lukas Foss, Hermann Prey, Krzysztof Penderecki) with satellite transmission for the first time live from Poland abroad to 25 countries.

From 1995 to 1998 he was general director of the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. He combined the activities of the opera, ballet, dramatic theatre and theatre studios under one directorship.

From 1999 to 2002 he was active as an impresario and producer. In 2002, he became director of the Department of Culture of the City of Warsaw and established the Theatre and Music Office. He supervised the activities of all Warsaw theatres. In 2004, he organised open-air celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising, as well as events on that occasion in Paris, Berlin, Israel, Dublin, Rome and Chicago.  From 2006 to 2008, he served as General Director of the Grand Theatre - National Opera.   

From 2007 to 2022 he was deputy president of Employers of Poland responsible for foreign relations, representing the organization in OECD, SGI Europe and IOE. On behalf of Employers of Poland, he was active in the task forces on Employment, Education and Human Capital in the B20 Advisory Committee, preparing recommendations for the G20 countries through the IOE.

Since 2010, he has represented Employers of Poland at the European Economic and Social Committee, where he currently serves as Quaestor.
